Year round, the Quartier presents artistic video projections on building façades. The district is the year-round host to countless festivals and events, many of which include free outdoor shows and activities. Other cities, including Repentigny, Toronto, Buffalo and Iowa City, will soon enjoy installations made for the Quartier des Spectacles by Quebec artists. The presentation of the two works was part of Plein les yeux et les oreilles, an art walk lauded by Quebec City mayor Régis Labeaume for its comforting character.
Quebec City hosted Impulse by Lateral Office and CS Design in collaboration with EGP Group, and Entre les rangs by KANVA Architecture. In addition to touring the world, the Partnership’s works are bringing light to public spaces in several Quebec cities this winter. We are gratified to see that many cultural districts and events around the globe are interested in hosting participatory and interactive art installations by our creative community,” said Éric Lefebvre, Executive Director of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership. “Thanks to the export of its works, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership has emerged as a leader in the worldwide promotion of creative talent from Montreal and everywhere in Quebec. Since 2016, with the support of the Partnership’s distribution partner, Creos, 12 works created for the Quartier des Spectacles have been presented on nearly 120 occasions in more than 50 cities around the world, reaching some 25 million people at home and abroad.
“With Prismatica, the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, with the support of the Québec Government Office in New York, is showing that it can respond productively to the major challenges facing cities, given that neighbourhood and downtown revitalization strategies are shifting toward safe activities for public spaces,” said Catherine Loubier, Quebec’s Delegate General in New York.
